AMLSN OSHODI-ISOLO CHAPTER MENTORS THE YOUNGSTERS

The Oshodi-Isolo chapter of the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN) Lagos has proven to the people that the essence of living is to touch the lives of others. The award winning chapter led by Mark Doris Chinelo Callistus
rounded up this year’s activities of the chapter with the organization of a career talk for secondary school students.

The event tagged “Teenage Career Day 2023″ with the theme ” Medical Laboratory Science Profession and Substance Abuse amongst the Teenagers” was done for the students of two schools namely Ronik Comprehensive School and Okota Senior Secondary School on the 22nd to 23rd November 2023.

The event was to raise awareness on the importance of Medical Laboratory Science in the Healthcare delivery system in Nigeria. It was an avenue to educate them on how to study the course and the prospects of being a Medical Laboratory Scientist. The Guest Speaker, Dr Tolulope Funbi Jolaiya succeeded in capturing the attention of the students. The questions and answers session testified to the fact that the program was indeed impactful.

She gave the students the opportunity to know that the abuse of drugs can be detrimental to their health. Dr Jolaiya pointed to them the drugs that can be easily abused, the consequences of drug abuse and the prevention.

The presentation by the staff of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Person (NAPTIP) revealed to the students the hazard in child trafficking, how to avoid it and steps to take if they notice any such activities around them.

Awards were presented to the representative of the Parallex Bank who co-sponsored the program in appreciation of the bank’s policy in promoting education and medical laboratory science, the Principal of Ronik Comprehensive School, Mrs Victoria Duru, the Principal of Okota Senior Secondary school, Mr Adejare Kehinde and the Guest Speaker Dr Tolulope Funbi Jolaiya.

The host of the program, Mr Utulu Peter was full of joy and he appreciated the people that made the program successful. Mr Ikechukwu Unamba, the immediate past Chairman of the Chapter was present to give the organizers the needed moral support.
One of the chapter patrons, Hon Badmus Ayoola was also part of the event.
