ANATOMY DONS BAG FELLOW NIGERIAN ACADEMY OF MEDICINE

The contributions of the two Anatomy Professors, Prof. Ademola Ayodele Oremosu and Prof. Francis Ikechukwu Duru were recognized by the Nigerian Academy of Medicine during their 2023 Annual Lecture and induction ceremony of new Fellows which was held at Reiz Continental Hotel, Abuja on the 26th of October, 2023.

At the event themed “Enhancing the Healthcare Workforce in Nigeria in the presence of the Changing Demographics”, the former Minister of Health of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Prof. Isaac F. Adewole FAS, FSPSP, FRCOP, DSc.(Hon.), FNAmed delivered a lecture titled “Interprofessional Relationships in the Health Sector”.

The Nigerian Academy of Medicine (NAmed) is a body registered with the Corporate Affair Commission as an independent, dynamic and innovative national resource of excellence and expertise in medical sciences and healthcare

The two Anatomy Professors bagged Fellows of the Academy, a reward for their long time contributions to the field of medicine. Professors Oremosu and Duru have been involved in the training of personnels in the medical fields. They are administrators par excellence and dedicated lecturers.

OREMOSU , Ademola Ayodele is a Professor of Human Anatomy in the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences of the University of Lagos. He holds MB;BS and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Lagos, Nigeria. He was the Director, Medilag Consult (2019 – 2023). Former Head of the Department of Anatomy, College of Medicine, University of Lagos.

His current research interest is on Neuro-inflammation of the Brain. He has successfully supervised 6 Ph.Ds. He has won several grants and awards and has served on some committees of the NUC.

He has over 90 publications in learned national and foreign journals. He is the current chairman of the education committee of the International Parkinson’s and Movement Disorders Society African Section.

He is widely travelled. He is happily married and blessed with a daughter.

He is a Fellow of the Anatomical Society of Nigeria, Fellow of the Neuroscience Society of Nigeria, Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Medicine and Fellow, Academy of Medicine Specialities of Nigeria.

Professor Francis Ikechukwu Duru is currently the Head of the Department of Anatomy, College of Medicine, University of Lagos.

He had a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (M.B;B.S) from University of Ibadan in 1981, Master of Science in Anatomy (M.Sc) from the University of Lagos in 1993 and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) in Anatomy from the University of Lagos in the year 2006.

He has trained ten (10) Ph.Ds in Anatomy and his areas of interest include Reproductive Biology, Testicular Oxidative stress and Quantitative microscopy.

He is happily married with children.
