ASSOCIATION OF MEDICAL LABORATORY SCIENTISTS OF NIGERIA MOURNS LATE DR (MISS) NWAERE DIASO
The Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN) Lagos State Civil Service Chapter commiserates with the Medical Guild and the Nigeria Medical Association Lagos on the death of Dr. (Miss) Vwaere Diaso, a Medical House Officer with Lagos State Health Service Commission who was trapped in an elevator and eventually lost her life.
The unfortunate incident could have been avoided if the necessary safety measures and routine maintenance had been taken on the elevator.
We express our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends and colleagues.
However, we received with rude shock the wrongful allegation of NO blood in the blood banks of the Medical Laboratory Department of the hospital, the claim that this facilitated her demise is untrue, baseless and mischievous.
For the avoidance of doubt, the Lagos State blood transfusion services, the blood bank unit is an integral part of Laboratory Services, has a robust mechanism for making safe blood available promptly during emergencies.
It is therefore pertinent to debunk the allegation of no blood at the emergency for Dr. Diaso, as posited by the NMA Lagos. To set the records straight, our records show that there was NO request for any blood test, or blood crossmatch of this patient, no request on behalf of late Dr. Diaso for a pint of blood reach the Medical Laboratory Department of the hospital.
We are quite aware of the grief of the Medical Practitioners on this unfortunate incident but casting aspersions indirectly at a Government policy on blood availability and wrongly accusing the efficiency of a professional group without thorough investigation and due diligence leaves much to be desired.
May the Almighty God grant the repose of her soul and avert such incidences in future.
Please accept our deepest condolences.
