ASSOCIATION OF MEDICAL ULTRASOUND PRACTITIONERS OF NIGERIA HOLDS 9TH ANNUAL CONFERENCE.

“BREAST CANCER IS NOT A DEATH SENTENCE” Dr Lilian Ebuoma

 

The Association of Medical Ultrasound Practitioners of Nigeria converged for a virtual meeting to celebrate this year’s annual conference.

 

The theme is “Ultrasound Guidelines for Practitioners in Nigeria”. The conference commenced from 28th to 30th October 2020. 

The month of October is the World Ultrasound Awareness Month.

 On the first day, members were allowed to add their opinions to the global debate on a topic “A day without a Sonographer”

 The second day was in collaboration with the Association of Radiographers of Nigeria (ARN) and GE Healthcare Medicals. It was an eventful outing with the opening remarks from the Registrar of Radiographers Registration Board of Nigeria (RRBN), Prof Mark Okeji, who commended the efforts of the organisers. He promised to support such an event that will inform and educate the ultrasound Practitioners in Nigeria. He assured the organisers that the board will award credit points for the conference.

 The President of the Association of Radiographers of Nigeria (ARN), Dr Joseph D. Zira in his message welcomed everyone to the conference and promised that ARN  will be willing to collaborate with AMUPN in such a mutual partnership in future.

 The Guest Speaker for the day was Dr Lillian Ebuoma,an associate Professor of Radiology, Baylor Medical School USA.

She took the participants round on the topic “Breast Imaging (Mammo and Ultrasound) What you  need to know”

She educated participants on the breast pathologies, the modalities used and the skills needed to achieve the best results.

She concluded her lecture that if breast cancers are detected on time and well managed well, it is not a death sentence.

 Dr George Iskander, a member of the GE Healthcare Medical affairs team (pharmaceutical diagnostics business unit) also delivered a well researched topic on ” The use of Omniscan in breast imaging”

Mrs Obiageli Orah was on hand to moderate the program for the day.

The last day of the conference was organised in collaboration with JNCI.

Dr Labaran Aliyu, an Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology opened the day’s program with a lecture littled ” AMUPN Ultrasound Guidelines for Practitioners in Nigeria”

 The keynote address was delivered by Dr Femi Olagunju, the immediate Past President of AMUPN. Other panelists were Mr Eyo Akpan and Barrister Lekan Ogundare.

They all spoke on the need to develop guidelines for ultrasound practice in Nigeria.

The program was moderated by Mr Thomas Fabunmi.

At the end of the day, Dr Bode Adewunmi, the President of AMUPN was full of appreciations for those who made the conference a huge success.
