Cooperate with the National Blood Transfusion Committee. Osikomaiya advised
The Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Blood Transfusion Committee, Dr Bodunrin Osikomaiya has enjoined all the blood bank practitioners in Lagos State to cooperate with the National Blood Transfusion Committee in the recent call for the registration of the blood service establishment in Nigeria.
This appeal was made when the members of Blood Bank Society of Nigeria (BBSN) paid her courtesy call in her office on Monday 28th September 2020.
In his opening speech, BBSN Chairman, Mr Thomas Fabunmi who was represented by his Vice Chairman, Mr Emmanuel Osehon expressed the fear of his members over what they considered as double registration by both the state and the Federal government.
He also pointed out the stringent conditions for this National registration which according to him may put his members in a disadvantaged position.
In her response to the call by BBSN to the Lagos State Blood Transfusion Committee to wade into the matter, Dr Osikomaiya pleaded for understanding from the members of BBSN.
According to her, “Lagos State law cannot supersede the Federal law. The only way to go about it is to see the areas of cooperation, integration and incorporation of ideas. Our Commissioner of Health is a listening type who will do anything to please the people of the state. I have opened up a channel of discussion with the Federal Blood Transfusion Committee.”
She enjoined all blood bank practitioners in Lagos State to go ahead and register.
Besides, she told the visiting team the ways or methods to overcome the problems of registration with the National Blood Transfusion Service.
She concluded that her door is opened for dialogue on any issue at any time.
