LABORATORY AND EYE CLINIC SHOULD HALT COLLECTION OF LETTER FROM LOCAL GOVERNMENT- ES HEFAMAA
The Guild of Medical Laboratory Directors (GMLD) Lagos Branch Executive Members paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Secretary (ES) of the
Health Facility Monitoring and Accreditation Agency (HEFAMAA) Dr Abiola Idowu and her team on the 13th December 2022 at the HEFAMAA office Tisco house Alausa Ikeja.
The GMLD executive members led by the Chairman, Adekoya Abimbola Julius and his team, Dr Leo Aniakor, the Secretary General and Mrs Ojo Adedayo, the Treasurer of the Association.
The Chairman, Mr Adekoya said in his opening remark that the visit was to thank the agency for the good work done in the year 2022. He also emphasized that it was an opportunity to present the challenges of his members to the Executive Secretary with the hope of looking for the ways out of them.
Dr Leo Aniakor pleaded with the ES that HEFAMAA should step up the public enlightenment campaign to educate the people on the need to know which facility to patronize for a particular service.
The Treasurer, Mrs Ojo advised the agency to step up her activity on the practitioners who perform beyond their scopes. She cited the case of a chemist shop doing laboratory tests
Mr Adekoya in his own submission called the attention of the Executive Secretary to the stress and exploitation faced by his members in the course of collecting letters from the Monitoring and Evaluation department ( M & E) in the Local Governments. He reminded the ES that the problems of Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) is not over yet.
The Executive Secretary who was in attendance with the Head of the Monitoring team, Dr Daniel Olayinka appreciated the visit and promised to attend to all the requests presented to them.
She promised that the stakeholders meeting coming up in January will address most of the issues while the suggested campaign by GMLD will be incorporated into their on-going public campaign.
Dr Idowu said she has received many complaints on the difficulty in getting letters at the Local Governments. She assured the GMLD of the supports of the Agency in making the process of registration seamless. She declared that henceforth Laboratories and Eye Clinics are exempted from collecting letters from the local government for the purpose of renewal in HEFAMAA.
Dr Olayinka thanked the GMLD Executive Members for the visit and encouraged other associations to feel free to come to HEFAMAA to exchange ideas that will stimulate effective performance and mutual understanding.
