GUILD OF MEDICAL LABORATORY DIRECTORS [GMLD] VISITS THE INSTITUTE OF HUMAN VIROLOGY OF NIGERIA

 The National Executive members of the Guild of Medical Laboratory Directors (GMLD) Led by the National President, Prince Elochukwu Adibo paid a courtesy visit to the Chief of party USAID TB LON project, South west Dr Aderonke Vivian Agbaje and her team.

 The event was held on the 26th November 2020 at the Institute of Human Virology of Nigeria.

In his opening speech, GMLD President, Prince Adibo commended the organisation for their frontline position in partnering with the government and implementation partners in fighting against major public health diseases especially TB and HIV. He went further that their successful ongoing execution of PPM projects in several states of the country are worthy of mention and recognition as this contributes in no small measure to improvement of poor health indices currently recorded as well as equitable access to quality health services in Nigeria where private sector accounts for over 60-70{2d64d7e1a3bb75521d13e1851168fc226ed6fdf71a245949960c0c370050cb4f} access to healthcare.

 Prince Adibo did not forget to introduce his association to his hosts that “Guild of Private Medical Laboratory Directors of Nigeria is a body incorporated by the CAC and is made up of Medical Laboratory Scientists in Private (Non-Government) practice. These include Private Stand Alone Medical Laboratory Directors/Managers, In-hospital Laboratory Owners/Managers, Owners and Marketers of In -Vitro Diagnostic Devices. Recently, Membership has been expanded to include MLS in NGOs and Academia. The key objective of the Guild is being an instrument through which quality service and professional accountability is ensured in the Medical Laboratory Private sector in our country. Another important objective is to promote the maintenance of high professional and ethical standards in Private Medical Lab. Practice, ensuring that Laboratory Test Results are of the highest reliability while assisting regulatory authorities stamp out any form of quackery and malpractice that impact on the substance and image of Medical Laboratories.”

 He promised to work with the organisation to use appropriate interventions to empower private Medical Laboratories to bring about quality healthcare in Nigeria.

 He affirmed his believes that the organization IHVN and his association GMLD can strengthen existing partnership and engagements to achieve the afore-mentioned vision, mission and objectives especially in PPM programs and projects.

 In her response, Dr. Aderonke Vivian Agbaje who supervises the USAID TB Local Organizations Network (LON) project in Lagos, Ogun, Oyo and Osun States as Chief of Party welcomed the GMLD team and assured them of mutual support.

 Dr Agbaje who also provides oversight for effective planning and implementation of the project aimed at detecting and treating tuberculosis cases in the states in Southwest informed the team of the benefits the association will derive from the collaboration.

 She submitted that her organization will partner with GMLD with the aim of getting information on the status of the Laboratory to work with, provision of reliable data.

Besides, she informed her guests  that USAID TB Local Organizations Network (LON) will assist in the areas of equipment placing, Capacity building (Training), Enlisting more laboratories in their programs and encouraging “,fees for service” initiative.

 Present at the occasion were Dr Daniel Olugbenga, IHVN DTP, and Dr Kolapo Oyeniyi, IHVN PSS.

On the side of GMLD were Mrs Ojo Adedayo, Akujubi Igwe, Onaneye Olumuyiwa and Adekoya Abimbola Julius.
