STAKEHOLDERS MEET TO ERADICATE TUBERCULOSIS
The efforts of the Lagos State government to eradicate tuberculosis was reinstated during the meeting of the stakeholders that took place in Lagos State Chambers of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) on the 28th November 2022.
The gathering was the meeting point of One hundred (100)T.B focal persons comprising both Gene Xpert Lab Focal Persons , Private Laboratories , Primary Health Centers, General Hospitals, Teaching Hospital, Police and Military Hospitals in Lagos State.
In his welcome speech, Dr. Daniel Sokoya, the Program Manager and the Deputy Director, Lagos State T. B., Leprosy and Buruli control program of Lagos State Ministry of Health admonished the participants to work with the ministry to achieve this aim of combating the menace of tuberculosis in the state. He added that the meeting was organized to refresh the knowledge of the laboratory scientists and to monitor the progress so far for improved treatment outcomes of TB patients.
MLS Aliu Omoh A, the State Quality Assurance Officer welcomed the participants and informed them that Lagos State has met with the target of the National TB strategy Plan that there should be at least one diagnostic tool per local government area.
She gave the Laboratory profile as 39 Genexpert machines in 32 sites across the state, 5 truenant sites, 14 sites of LF LAM, 106 active AFB and 53 inactive AFB sites in the 3rd quarter.
One of the facilitators, Mr Philip Ojo, the LASUTH, GeneXpert focal person gave a Refresher lecture on “Emphasis on proper slides grading for AFB laboratories.
Dr Tolulope Adaran, the laboratory Manager of the Grant Management Unit presented a lecture on the “Validation of Genexpert QRRF”
“Updating Genexpert Utilization Summary Tool” was delivered by Mr Olabamiji Jamiu, the Senior Laboratory Advisor of the Institute of Human Virology, Nigeria.
Dr Samuel Ogiri, the World Health Organization National Professional Officer-TB South-West zone was in attendance to give technical support as a Stakeholder.
The event attracted other dignitaries from the State Ministry of Health. Mr Toyin Ekundayo, the Director Medical Laboratory Science (DMLS) of Lagos State Primary Health Centers Board (LSPHCB), Mrs Olufunmlayo Egbuna, DMLS of Health Service Commission (HSC), Mrs Martins Motunrayo, Mr Taofeek Oseni and Mr Raji Oluwagbemiga. Mr Adekoya Abimbola Julius Chairman Guild of Medical Laboratory Directors GMLD Lagos Branch was also in attendance.
